Among Us matches can be between 4 to 10 players maximum on several different maps. The approach is simple; we are crew members of a ship and among us there is an impostor with the aim of killing them all. But beware, because that impostor may be ourselves.
At the beginning of each game, it is randomly decided who will be the impostor. It can be you or it can be any other player, the fact is that only the impostor will know that he is, and everyone else will have to suspect even their own shadow while trying to survive.
Advice and tips for Crewmembers
Knowing what we’ve said so far, let’s move on to describing the objective of each side and the essential tricks to win. We start with the Crewmen, who are the majority of players in a game and must survive the impostors. This group has to attend to the following characteristics, advice and tips to win:
- Cooperate with each other: with the others performing tasks and trying to discover who the impostor is so that they can be ejected into space as soon as possible.
- Fill the task bar: don’t stay still and take advantage of the time, the more tasks you complete, the more the meter will rise and if it is 100% complete, the crew members will automatically win the game.
- Fix the sabotage: if a problem occurs in the ship, quickly go to the right place to solve it and be able to continue with the normal course of the game. Don’t leave a sabotage unsolved because some of them can make you lose the game when the timer reaches zero.
- Report the Impostor: Of course if you see a player killing another, or see him come out of a sewer, act suspiciously, pretend to perform tasks, etc., feel free to report him so you can all vote for him. Remember to do it wisely and only if you are sure, you don’t want to expel someone innocent.
- Use surveillance cameras: to look at the scenarios more widely and try to find evidence that will make you discover the impostor.
Advice and tips for Impostors
As for the other side of players, we have the Impostors (which can be a maximum of 3 in a game). This is the most fun role as it offers many possibilities. If you have to play as one (we already warned you that there is no trick to always be the impostor), write down these basic keys, tips and tricks:
- Do not raise suspicions about yourself: this is the most important thing of all, camouflage yourself among the other players and gradually end the lives of the crew members without being discovered.
- Kill carefully: do not commit these acts in the sight of others, wait for the right moments, look for players who stand apart from the rest, do not chase some for too long so that they do not suspect you.
- Pretend to perform tasks: while planning your next assassination. Going from here to there always works very well to have alibis. Now, be careful with faking tasks in front of others. An intelligent crew member can catch you, for example, if he sees that the taskbar does not go up when you leave a room, or if he detects that you are spending too little time doing a task that actually requires more seconds.
- Hide in Grates: As an Impostor you can take advantage of interconnected vents and holes to quickly move, flee, or trap players in the blink of an eye. Of course, be very careful before getting in or out of them, so that no one sees you.
- Be careful with the cameras: be careful when acting if you are in corridors where there are surveillance cameras, they light up with a red dot if another player is watching through them, so if you detect this, get out of there and wait another time .
- Lie, lie a lot: if you are accused, do not hesitate to lie and accuse others (even the player who accused you). Try to make your arguments sound and believable, especially for players who haven’t seen you act.
- Carry out sabotage: since these will come in handy so that the crew cannot do tasks or move to specific areas. Some sabotages can even win you the game if they are not fixed in time.
- Be as neutral as possible: the players who accuse the most are usually the ones most likely to be sent off. Now, do not stay silent all the time either because they will start to think that you are hiding something. Try to blend in with the group and not stand out too much at any point.
Signs and acts that give away an Impostor
While some of the situations described below may not be absolute proof that a player is an Impostor, keep in mind that most of the time if you detect any of the following, chances are you have discovered a Impostor:
- Task bar doesn’t go up: If you watch another player stopped completing a task, and as they move, the task bar doesn’t go up a bit, then you’re dealing with an impostor (especially if they’re pretending to do a task that has animations, such as dropping trash into space).
- The player leaves a room: in which you know for a fact that there was no one, he is an impostor because he will have used the ventilation.
- If a player is accused: and immediately he also accuses the person who accused him, it is quite likely that it is actually the impostor trying to save himself.
- If someone accuses another: and everyone votes to kick him and then that player is found to be innocent, almost certainly the player who accused him in the first place will be the impostor.
- If a player comes out of a slit: Obviously, they are an impostor (if they are near or on top of one for a while, they do not necessarily have to be the impostor).
Of course, it goes without saying that if you are the impostor, write down everything that we have just exposed so as not to fall into those errors and not be easily discovered.
Learn to take advantage of roles
Since the ‘Role & Cosmicube’ update, Among Us has added up to 4 roles that players can use in their games to perform different special abilities. These roles affect both imposters and crew members and drastically change the mechanics of the matches, so make sure you know them thoroughly so you know how to take advantage of them (and how to activate and customize them).
