Your car is one of your most important purchases, after your home, and while washing it may seem fairly simple, there are a few tips you need to know to protect your investment. Wash your car regularly, not just when you’re in town or planning to take your boss out to dinner. Keeping your car clean and free of dirt and grime will reduce and keep your car’s value high.
clean the outside
Choose a soft car sponge and a sturdy bucket filled with cold water to tackle the car wash project, but avoid harsh cleaners like dish soap or laundry soap that can damage your car’s finish. Better yet, invest in the countless high-quality car care products such as Bil rengøring soap, tire repair, wheel cleaner and other products designed to clean your leather or vinyl interior.
– Choose a shady place to wash your car
as direct sunlight can be absorbed by the paintwork of dark cars and cause water spots. Start by soaking the car in cold water to remove excess dirt and grime from the paintwork. Flush the wheel arches to remove mud and dirt that has accumulated on the body and can cause moisture to cause premature rust. Start at the top and work your way down in the car. Use cold water, as warm or hot water will remove the applied car wax. Wash both tires and wheels. Car wash soap and water will never damage a chrome or custom wheel. Rinse off the soapy water and dry with a towel. I found a nice soft old bath towel that does a great job. Special Note: The only thing that removes wood sap from the car paint is cold water.
bumps and scratches
As soon as you see a dent or scratch in the paint, use a drop of topcoat. The touch-up paint will help prevent the stain from rusting. Also larger dents, dings and scratches should be treated as soon as possible to prevent rust. Touch-up paint is available at most aftermarket parts stores, but if you have a special color, please contact your dealer. They should be able to order a pipe for a minimal price.
Grease the doors
Here’s a quick trick to get rid of squeaks from your car doors. Use fresh engine oil on the hood, tailgate and door seals to keep them well lubricated. Pour the oil on the bottom of the door and also work it between the steel layers to prevent sticking and rust. Some have found it helpful to spray the oil into doorways as well, but keep it away from window rails to prevent oil from staining the glass.
